Exaggeration Settings Dialog

Stretching the view in X, Y and/or Z

Exaggeration Settings

To access this dialog:

  • With the Design window active, select the View ribbon and View | Exaggerate

The Exaggeration Settings dialog is used to set the view exaggeration (but not the underlying data) of the Design window by increasing the scale factor along a specified axis. Each axis can be exaggerated independently of the others.

Field Details:

Exaggerate X, Y, Z or Reset: enter either 'X', 'Y' or 'Z' into the field specified to determine the direction of scaling (exaggeration). Alternatively, type 'reset' to revert all dimensions back to a 1:1 scale, removing any previously applied exaggeration. For example, the following wireframe image (in plan view) will be exaggerated:

Typing 'X' (or 'x') into this field and '1.5' into the Factor field (see below) will stretch the data in the X direction by a factor of 1.5:

As another example, the following North-South section of a DTM looks like this in the original form:

When a factor of '2' is applied to the 'Z' dimension, the contour heights are enhanced, as shown below:

Note that when data is exaggerated in this way, it is the view of the data, not the data itself, that is being updated. In effect, you are stretching the axes of the view area. The underlying data is unaffected.

Factor: add a factor into this field to be applied to the axis specified above.
